There's this half unhinged door. It can't open properly, neither can it close. It can barely waver between the two. It's just there, doing nothing. Nobody expects anything out of it; it's been broken this way for a while. Nobody knows how to fix it so it's just there, unable to perform any of the simple tasks a door is expected to accomplish. Sometimes when people pass by, it sort of shakes and whines, but that's it.

And then, when one changes, it's like a constant defending of self that, 'NO. I'm not like that anymore.' Most aggravating! People are uncomfortable when someone 'fixes' their hinges themselves, because they are used to them being broken and comfortable with that, even though it may mean that the person fixed is happier with their life now.
" .. .unable to perform any of the simple tasks a door is expected to accomplish." That one made me think. Like what?
You speak in such beautiful and eloquent phraseology and with such clear, poignant pain that I can only know that it comes from your bandaged heart.
*HUGS* and gentle reminders that you are valuable! Even in this cyber world of ours that we share.

You expect a door to give you privacy, security, keep you from the cold. All it can ever do is either be open or shut.
You are a very caring person :)
